Paid Research Participation

"Understanding how Americans adapt, so we're ready when it matters."

NASRI is currently recruiting adult volunteers for compensated field research studies in wilderness environments across the western United States.

What Participation Involves

Field research at NASRI is not a weekend camping trip. Our studies involve genuine physical and psychological challenge in real wilderness conditions.

  • Duration: Multi-day field deployment (3 to 21 days depending on study).
  • Activities: Active navigation, pursuit scenario participation, and isolation periods.
  • Monitoring: Continuous physiological and psychological monitoring.
  • Safety: Medical and research staff are on site at all times.

COMPENSATION: $60 per hour for all hours from transport to study conclusion. Food, water, equipment, and transport are provided by the federal government.

Eligibility Requirements

Ideal candidates meet the following criteria:

  • Adults ages 18-40 in good physical health.
  • Comfortable in remote outdoor environments.
  • No active dependent obligations (children, elderly parents requiring care).
  • No active employment with required availability.
  • No documented next-of-kin with regular contact expectations.

Note: Applications from individuals with extensive social connectivity or community obligations are unlikely to meet deployment eligibility requirements due to the communication-restricted nature of NASRI field studies.

Intake & Application

NASRI's intake process is thorough. Plan for a minimum of 21 days from initial inquiry to potential deployment. The process consists of 14 stages, including psychological evaluation, physical assessment, and a standard administrative holding period.

To Apply: Contact the NASRI Recruitment Division at 1-800-555-0147 or by mail at P.O. Box 4471, Washington, D.C. 20201.

Other Participation Programs

Federal Correctional Research Partnership
